The position acts as Department Head in the absence of the Director, and assists in the various management and administrative activities and decisions. Responsible for assisting the Director of Utilities in managing and supervising of the Utilities Department, consisting of Water Production, Surface Water Treatment, Water Transmission, Water Distribution, Wastewater Collection, Wastewater Treatment (Hollywood Road WWTP and River Road WWTP), Laboratory Administration and Director of Utilities Office. Duties involve all aspects of utilities dealing with financing, budgeting, personnel, short- and long-term planning, public relations, property acquisition and operational control as well as liaison between management, staff and residents of Amarillo. Requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or related field or the ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment. Five (5) years with a specialization in water and wastewater treatment, water main and sewer main design is required. Registered professional engineer in Texas or applicable Texas Commission on Environmental Quality licensing is preferred. Three (3) years management experience in the utility field is required. Relevant course work and management experience in Water and Sewer Utility Operations can be substituted for experience as an engineer. Valid Texas Driver's License Required.
