The City of Brighton, Colorado is inviting applications for the position of Assistant Public Works Director. The Assistant Public Works Director is an advanced professional position that directs, oversees, supervises, and coordinates the activities of employees of the Infrastructure Department Public Works Division, including public works engineering, transportation and planning, streets, traffic and transportation system infrastructure planning, operations and maintenance, construction management, and inspection services and fleet maintenance operations. The position is also responsible for technical work planning, prioritizing, and implementing the Public Works Infrastructure Capital Improvement program in the Infrastructure Department.

The selected candidate should hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering or a related field. Seven to ten years of progressively responsible experience in the management of public works infrastructure, including but not limited to design, construction and maintenance of roadways, right-of-way improvements, traffic operations, transportation system planning, fleet maintenance operations, and construction management, is required. The chosen candidate must be registered with the Colorado State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as a professional engineer (P.E.), or have the ability to become registered within 6 months of hire. The candidate must have a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record and must have the ability to complete FEMA ICS 100 and IS 700 training within six months of hire. A master’s degree in civil or environmental engineering or a related field; three to five years of supervision of professional level engineers, technical, and maintenance staff; and three to five years of municipal utility infrastructure capital improvement project experience are preferred qualifications. Bilingual Spanish/English preferred. The City offers a competitive salary with negotiable relocation assistance.
