Description | NOTICE OF CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION
City of Hurst, TX (www.hursttx.gov) will be giving an entrance examination for Firefighter at 9:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 27, 2019, at the Hurst Justice Center, 825 Thousand Oaks Drive, Hurst, TX 76054. Minimum Requirements are:

The eligibility list created as a result of this entrance examination will be effective for 12 months from the date of the written examination or until exhausted. The City of Hurst is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
CITY OF HURST, TEXAS MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT AS A FIREFIGHTER
1. Must be a citizen of the United States and be able to provide documented proof of identity and employment eligibility. 2. Must be at least 18 but not more than 35 years of age. 3. Certified or licensed as a Paramedic by the Texas Department of State Health Services or have a National Registry Paramedic Certification. At the time of entrance examination, applicants must provide evidence of Certification (or Licensure) by the Texas Department of State Health Services or National Registry Paramedic Certification. 4. Must possess a currently valid Texas driver's license with a good driving record and be able to obtain a commercial driver's license. 5. Must be able to successfully pass a rigid physical examination. A. Must possess visual acuity of 20/40 or better in each eye, correctable to 20/20 binocular vision and no color blindness. B. Must possess hearing to the equivalency of 15-15 (be able to hear a whispered voice 15 feet). 6. Must successfully pass a physical agility test given by Tarrant County College within six months prior to appointment or within 90 days of appointment. If hired by the Hurst Fire Department, the successful appointee will be reimbursed the cost of the physical agility test given by Tarrant County College. 7. Must successfully pass a polygraph examination. 8. Must have an honorable discharge if served in the military service. 9. Must not be addicted to any barbiturate or narcotic or the excessive use of alcohol. 10. Must be of good moral character and reputation. Convictions or pending charges of any crime involving moral turpitude will disqualify an applicant. 11. A thorough investigation will be made of applicants. Any misrepresentations or vital omissions in the application will be grounds for refusing admission to an examination, for rejection after certification for appointment, or for dismissal after being appointed. 12. Cannot be a relative of a present Fire Department employee. 13. Ability to become certified as a structural fire fighter by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection. If hired, new employees will be sent to the fire academy at the discretion of the Fire Department.

Documentation showing graduation date of Paramedic Program (if not TX DSHS certified) Firefighter Job Description Department: Fire Division: Fire Job Type: Full-Time FLSA Status: Non-exempt Job Number: 50-19-15 Salary/Pay Rate: $23.35/hr. during probation; $25.57/hr. after completion of probation Position Summary Performs fire suppression, emergency rescue, advanced life support emergency medical care and transport, hazardous materials incident mitigation, and other tasks in hazardous and emergency environments as a member of a 24-hour shift assignment. Is responsible to perform tasks and duties related to public fire education, fire prevention education, and safety awareness. Also, performs certain routine maintenance, write and record official reports relative to responsibilities and activities using current documentation technologies Essential Job Functions
