Journeyman Electrician (Parks)

Summary: Performs work in the maintenance of City parks, buildings, grounds and related equipment. Performs related work as required.

Principal Duties/Responsibilities:

• Repairs any and all electrical systems related problems on park equipment and or facilities.
• Performs preventative maintenance and regular inspections of electrical systems to ensure maximum efficiency.
• Keeps complete records of all major equipment service requirements and replacement records.
• Maintains electrical equipment and parts in working order.
• Responds to emergency situations.
• Performs general maintenance on park buildings as required.
• Assists in major remodeling or renovation projects requiring use of carpentry, plumbing and electrical tools.
• Maintains equipment and materials used in work and replenishes supplies.
• Supports the departmental operations with regular and timely attendance.
• Supports the relationship between the City of Odessa and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

Education: High School Diploma or GED Certification required.

Experience: Minimum of five years electrical building maintenance experience preferred.

Certification: Possess a valid Texas Drivers License and a valid Journeyman Electrician License.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the work. Good knowledge of methods, procedures and tools used in building maintenance. Ability to understand, follow and give oral and written instructions; use janitorial equipment' perform moderately strenous work; make minor plumbing and carpentry repairs and major electrical repairs. Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications and blue prints. Ability to keep vehicle and equipment clean and in good working order. Ability to work in adverse weather conditions. Ability to work off of ladders, scaffold & bucket truck ability to install, troubleshoot and comprehend the following, 120V, 240V, 208V, 277V, 480V systems. (Both single and three phase), hook up transformers, motor & controllers.

Safety requirement: Position requires that City approved safety shoes be worn.
