The City of Portland, Texas, is seeking a motivated and customer service focused multi-tasker to join our team as Building Official.  

 The Building Official will conduct on-site inspections of residential, industrial, and commercial construction, alteration, or repair to ensure compliance with city building electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and fuel gas codes and ordinances.  The successful applicant should be Master licensed and a certified inspector in the trades typical for the position including electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems. Associate degree and 5 years of progressively responsible building inspection experience is required.  Experience with the “SmartGov” permitting system is preferred.  Additional preferred areas of expertise or experience should include development, implementation and support for F-O-G and Backflow programs; GIS; code enforcement initiatives; and other “Team” duties as required.  

 The salary range for this position is $52,478 to $76,092 DOQ.  In addition to base salary, the City pays certification pay; advanced education pay, and longevity pay.  The City of Portland offers a generous benefits package that includes health, dental, life, disability insurance, retirement, paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays.
