The City of Irving is currently seeking a service oriented Accountant, primarily working over City federal and state grant activities. Duties include performing timely grant reporting and grant draw reimbursements; providing assistance and training to departments on accounting and/or grant related topics and financial systems; reviewing, preparing, managing, analyzing and presenting various financial documents and accounts; monitoring various bank accounts and resolving issues; reconciling various general ledger accounts; preparing combining schedules (lead schedules and Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards), audit work papers and adjustments for the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and Single Audit Report; initiating or approving wire transfers; preparing or approving journal entries; and researching and answering questions from external auditors and departments. Duties also include financial oversight for the accounting and reporting of Special Revenue Funds; monitoring the accounting and reconciliation of grant contracts; and developing testing programs for new software installations and upgrades in assigned area of responsibility. Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business, accounting or finance and two years of related experience. Must have thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and ability to interpret technical accounting pronouncements and federal and state funding requirements.
