Golf Shop Assistant (part-time)

Summary: Under the supervision of the assistant Pro or Golf Course Pro, performs clerical work, tracking daily play, bookkeeping, record keeping, receiving payments/ fees from the public for the use of facilities and equipment, answering phone, golf shop sales, assists with tournaments, merchandising, assist outside service assistants and other daily operations of the golf course.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

Principal Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Receives payments/ fees from the public for use of golf course facilities and equipment.
  • Prepares reports, bank deposits, record keeping, bookkeeping.
  • Balances cash or charge sales.
  • Assists with tournament operations
  • Answers telephone
  •  Ensures that the golf facility is operational and that necessary equipment is available and issued as required; inspects and examines all equipment on a schedule basis.
  • Maintains immediate working area.
  •  Provides information to the public concerning various fees, rules, regulations, procedures and golf course related events.
  • Prepares and/ or collects the starting time sheets from the manager and announces who is next to tee off; ensures that players start in proper order; keeps players informed on any delays due to weather or course conditions.
  •  Assist in golf instruction clinics and other programs developed by manager.
  • Enter scores for handicaps.
  •  Assists in golf shop operations to include merchandising, inventory, display, and sales.
  • Performs overtime work when required.
  •  Keeps accurate time records of daily tasks.
  • Supports the department operations with timely attendance.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines: High School Diploma or GED required. Prefer  (six) 6 months experience in golf course pro shop operations.


License and certification requirements: A valid Texas State Driver's license is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the game of golf, knowledge of the equipment used in the game of golf.
  • Knowledge of basic clerical accounting principals
  • Knowledge of procedures necessary to complete daily reports and records
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures and rules and regulations involved in the operation of a golf facility
  • Skill in operating a cash register and related credit card equipment
  • Skill in operating a ten-key adding machine
  • Skill in the use of a variety of machines including personal computer, fax machine and printer.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with the general public, vendors, co-workers on a regular basis.
  • Through knowledge of/and ability to follow established safety procedures.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.

Physical requirements:

Besides the physical requirements mentioned above, the employee will be required to meet the following physical requirements:

  • Lifting: 10+ pounds to lift and carry office supplies, files or equipment.
  • Agility: Required to use fine manipulation in using computer, typewriter, calculator, telephones and other office equipment. Must be able to use copying machine to file, collate, stuff envelopes, maintain logs etc.
  • Vision: Required to see visual signs such as flashing lights, cursors, displays on computer, calculator, copy machine etc.
  • Hearing: Uses auditory senses for answering telephones and working with citizens by telephone or in person while assisting them with golf course business, i.e. information on various programs.
  • Reading: Required to read directions, schedules and education materials.
  • Writing: Required to write reports, memos, etc. in a comprehensive and legible manner.
  • Speaking: Required to enunciate and relay information to citizens, co-workers and supervisors via telephone and in person.
  • Environment: Must work in an office with traffic, telephone calls, visitors etc. Required to sit for extended periods of time while working with computer and completing other job duties. Required to accomplish filing duties in cabinet drawers, extending from floor level  to approximately five (5) feet in height and one extending to the ceiling. Required as needed to cover for other clerical staff while completing own job duties.

Other physical requirements: Required to stand, walk, bend, squat, kneel, reach overhead, lift overhead, knee stand, push and pull in order to perform job duties.
