SUMMARY: 

Performs a wide variety of semi-skilled and skilled work in operation, maintenance and repair of the City’s wastewater collection system and treatment plant.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Performs preventative maintenance and repair of treatment plants and equipment; operates the treatment plant to include, process control testing, system monitoring and process adjustments as directed by the lead plant operator; performs repairs and maintenance on aerators, pumps and meters; monitors and calibrates a variety of instruments, including inflow and discharge meters; assists with video sewer line inspections for proper flow, restrictions, water and root intrusion, manhole and cover condition; detects needed repairs and leaks, and integrity of overall sewer system; assists in cleaning sewer line using jet/vacuum unit; jetting lines; removes debris from lines and manholes; operates all motorized equipment such as pickup truck, sewer jet trucks, CCTV van, dump trucks, front end loaders, backhoes, tractors, mowers, plows, sweepers and similar equipment; provides sewer line locations to residents and contractors; assists in maintaining current as-built drawings of all sewer mains, user taps and manholes of the system; maintains records of emergency service calls and other services as needed; implements traffic control plans for projects; and performs all other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent; at least one year of general maintenance experience;  possession of a valid CO Driver License; possession of or the ability to obtain a valid Colorado Class B CDL Driver’s License within 6 months of employment; possession of or the ability to obtain within one year of employment a State of Colorado Class I Wastewater Collections Certificate; possession of or actively pursuing a State of Colorado Class D Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator’s License within one year of employment; skill in the safe and proper use of equipment, machinery, tools and vehicles;  knowledge of safe and proper work zone setup requirements; knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances, and rules involved in truck and heavy equipment operations; knowledge of applicable safety procedures and regulations, including confined space; knowledge of plumbing; skill in diagnosing and detecting malfunctions and taking corrective action; skill in operating light and heavy equipment used to install and maintain the municipal sewer system, such as sewer jet/vac unit, backhoes, loaders, snow plows,  dump trucks, mowers, and tractors, ability to read and interpret City street signs, locator maps, blue prints and specifications; ability to prepare & maintain accurate records; ability to establish & maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, contractors, public officials, and the general public; ability to lift, push, and pull up to 117 lbs., and the ability to work on-call after scheduled work hours. College level courses in chemistry, microbiology, mathematics, environmental health or other related courses are highly desirable.  Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
