W/WW Systems Laborer is the entry level class.  Under direct supervision of W/WW Systems Operators, incumbents learn to perform semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repairs on the water distribution and wastewater collection systems.

W/WW Systems Operator have completed the entry level of training and experience, have obtained the required license and certifications, and is fully qualified to perform and oversee a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work in the operation, maintenance and repair of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems.  The System Operator oversees, trains and supervises the work activities of the Laborer position.

 

 Principal Duties:

W/WW Laborer

  1. Learn, assist with, and perform under supervision, the maintenance and repairs of water distribution lines, wastewater collection lines, manholes, meter and related infrastructure.
  2. Learn, assist with, and perform under supervision, preventative maintenance and emergency operations of the wastewater collection line to include but not limited to, identifying system defects and structural failure, and working with cleaning and inspection equipment as necessary.
  3. Learn, assist with, and perform under supervision, the installation of water sewer service connections.
  4. Perform maintenance of utility easements and rights of way, as well as, maintenance of vehicles, equipment, tools and facilities.
  5. Generate and complete work orders utilizing computerized maintenance system and perform other related duties as assigned.

This class is distinguished from the W/WW Systems Operator in that the latter is competent to perform the full range of skilled duties as well as supervise/oversee the work of the Laborer.

W/WW Systems Operator

  1. Oversee, participate in, and perform maintenance and repairs of water distribution lines, wastewater collection lines, manholes, meter and related infrastructure.
  2. Oversee, participate in, and perform preventative maintenance and emergency operations of the wastewater collection line to include but not limited to, identifying system defects and structural failure, and working with cleaning and inspection equipment as necessary.
  3. Oversee, participate in, and perform the installation of water sewer service connections.
  4. Perform maintenance of utility easements and rights of way, as well as, maintenance of vehicles, equipment, tools and facilities.
  5. Generate and complete work orders utilizing computerized maintenance system and perform other related duties as assigned.
  6. Assist Crew Leader in training W/WW Systems Laborers and perform other related duties as assigned.

 

 Qualifications:

Required: 

High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.  Class "B" CDL with a tanker and air brake endorsement, or obtain within two (2) months from date of hire.  Available for emergency response.  Ability to perform essential duties in an environment that entails a variety of weather conditions and extreme temperatures; frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing, pushing/pulling; and exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals in a potentially hazardous work area and environmental conditions.

*Additional requirements for W/WW Systems Operator:

One (1) year experience related to area of assignment or the equivalent combination of training and experience.  Class "A" CDL with a tanker and air brake endorsement
Class "C" (or higher) Water Distribution certification.  Class "I" (or higher) Wastewater Collection certification.  All license and/or certifications are required to be maintained and/or upgraded (if applicable) as required by State Law

Applicants who do not meet the minimum requirements for W/WW Systems Operator will be considered for the W/WW Systems Laborer position

Preferred:

 Knowledge of utility construction and maintenance
