The Capital Area Council of Governments, CAPCOG, is an organization of city and county governments in the 10-county region surrounding the Austin metro area created to foster collaboration at the regional level and promote economy and efficiency in the coordinated development of the region. The Regional Planning and Services Division provides technical assistance and support to local governments throughout the 10-county region on issues related to planning and land use, sustainable development, transportation planning, natural resource management, and related policy fields.

The Regional Planning and Services Division (RPS) is seeking candidates for the GIS Applications Specialist position. This position supports the RPS division, the Emergency Communications Division of CAPCOG, which is also a designated Emergency Communications District, and the Homeland Security Division of CAPCOG. Work is focused on deployment and utilization of the ArcGIS platform for 911-GIS data editing collaboration and quality control, as well as for other related emergency management applications. This position also includes typical GIS work such as data management, spatial analysis, and mapping.

Education: Minimum of a GIS Certificate or a Bachelor’s degree in GIS or with strong GIS course work required.

Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience as a GIS professional having used geospatial technologies, specifically ArcGIS Desktop/ArcGIS Pro, and web-based GIS with ArcGIS Enterprise (Portal) and/or ArcGIS Online is required. An equivalent combination of education, training, and job experience may be substituted as determined by the supervisor.

Salary: $53,000 - $56,000 depending on qualifications
