Athletic Supervisor (Official Job Title: Business Professional II - Parks):  Under direction of the Division Manager, performs highly responsible technical, administrative, and supervisory work of a difficult and responsible nature in developing and implementing an organized use of playable athletic fields.  (Note:  Sarasota County does not provide direct athletic league programming, but are partners with over 40 leagues and organizations with facility use agreements and other users through recreation permits.  Coordinates with various leagues, the Visit Sarasota, Sports Commission, Government Agencies and other partners to plan, organize and implement a variety of sporting events.  Work is performed in accordance with broad policies with considerable latitude for independent judgment as to details and execution.   

Duties:

Central Processing

•     Assist central processing center for athletic field scheduling, payment and billing processing.  Ensures proper implementation of the pricing plan.

•     Assist reservations unit to ensure effective and efficient communication. 

•     Coordinate with staff regarding lighting and software issues (Skylogix, MUSCO and RecTrac).

•     Handles citizen complaints and explains County ordinances, policies and procedures.  Function as a liaison with various user groups and organizations within area assigned.

•     Prepares presentations and presents to the BCC and internal/external customers.

•    Coordinates maintenance requirements with athletic maintenance manager and supervisors to maximize the appearance and integrity of playing services, park amenities, structures and landscape.  Responsible for communicating all maintenance issues necessary to support leagues and tournaments.

Contract Management

  • Serves as contract administrator managing contractual, compliance and reporting requirements for Board approved Recreation Facility Use Agreements and similar contracts.
  • Facilitates the contract development and amendment process for athletic field usage.
  • Conducts semiannual meetings to review all current policies and procedures to all leagues.
  • Attends athletics league and partnered organization board meetings.

Operations

  • Manages proactive assessments of fraud awareness, prevention, detection and risk mitigation activities in area of responsibility: oversees financial, compliance, operational and performance audits; review audit findings and ensures appropriate controls are established an implemented.
  • Manages, directs, coaches, assigns, mentors, trains, hires and supervises direct staff.  May assume authority for the division in manager’s absence.
  • Develops and writes operation procedures.  Ensures compliance to county guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Ensures proper collection of data in support of performance metrics.
  • Development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and procedures, and work schedules for the division and the department.
  • Maintains effective relations with a variety of government officials, civic groups, leagues, community organizations, groups and the public.  Works closely with County staff to provide comprehensive athletic recreation services to County residents and to solve a broad range of service delivery, community and administrative problems.
  • Prepares management reports:  collects, analyzes and evaluates data and information develops conclusions and recommendations.  Maintains time and production records.
  • May serve as a project liaison for athletics related capital projects.

Sports Tourism

  • Serves as a liaison to Visit Sarasota Sports Commission coordinating athletic field usage and other services in support of the large athletic events that bring economic impact to the area.
  • Manages tournament process coordinating field usage with ongoing users.  Works with Maintenance Manager to ensure appropriate staffing and resource assignments.  

Volunteers

  • Manages division volunteer program.  Develops volunteer opportunities and develops necessary training.  Ensures the collection of league and partner volunteer data.  Ensures division reaches volunteer goals set by department.

 

Minimum Qualifications:  A Bachelor 's Degree from an accredited college or university in Public Administration, Business, Finance, Recreation, Leisure Services or Education or closely related field and at least two (2) years of professional experience preferably in the field of Parks and Recreation. Six (6) years of professional experience can be substituted at management discretion.  Related professional program / project management may substitute for the required education. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification by NRPA as a CPRP

  • Previous Parks and Recreation experience

  • Knowledge and use of RECTRAC

  • Previous experience in managing contracts and sport tourism events
