Canyon, Texas, is situated in the Texas Panhandle, just 14 miles south of Amarillo, and serves as the Randall county seat. Canyon is a thriving small town with world-renowned tourist attractions, and tourism is very important to the local economy. Canyon has a median income of $46,525 and an average home value of $160,200. The City received the TML Excellence Award in 2014 and has been named among the top 10 Best Small Towns in America, Safest Cities in Texas, Best Small Towns to visit in the US, and Most Beautiful Towns in Texas.

Canyon has a unique culture and is a leader in the Texas Panhandle for innovation and successful governance. Canyon is a home rule municipality operating under the commission-manager form of government. The City has a lean but effective workforce with a low turnover rate comprised of 100 full-time and 40 part-time employees, with up to 80 seasonal part-time employees. The City’s total fiscal year budget is $21 million.

The City of Canyon seeks an innovative, visionary, highly ethical City Manager with experience in a full-service city and an in-depth understanding of municipal operations. The selected candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in public administration, business, or a related field. Five to seven years of experience as a city manager or assistant city manager is preferred. It is preferred that the new City Manager have a familiarity with the Texas Panhandle region from having worked in the area, but the City Council will not exclude individuals from consideration if they do not have that connection.
