Director of Public Works/Utilities ---Horicon, WI (Population 3,656)
Located in south central Wisconsin and on the Horicon National Wildlife Refuge, Horicon is seeking a public works professional manager to lead its DPW and Utilities functions. Known as the” City on the Marsh”, Horicon has a rich history and a bright future. Horicon is a diverse community that contains a dynamic downtown area, robust industrial base (John Deere makes its Gator all-terrain vehicles here), established neighborhoods, aquatic center and excellent parks/trail system. The Mayor and six Aldermen, comprising the City Council, are elected on a non-partisan basis. $4M total annual Public Works and Utilities operating budget (including CIP, Public Works, Utilities, Fleet, Aquatic Center, Parks and Forestry); 9 FTE plus 5 PT employees. Require Associates degree in civil engineering/technology, public or business administration or related field with at least 10 years progressive municipal public works-utilities technical and experience; 3 years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Significant public works-utilities experience may be considered in lieu of education requirement. Residency is encouraged. Salary range $80-90K. Desire a strong background in public works and utilities (including transportation, fleet, water supply, including wells, pumping stations, water distribution, wastewater treatment facility and the wastewater collection system); management; budget development; facilities management; human resources management; organizational leadership skills; intergovernmental cooperation and the ability to cultivate positive and productive relationships with the City Council, staff and community members. The successful candidate will demonstrate a high level of customer service; integrity; a strong work ethic; commitment to community development and redevelopment; open and positive communication skills and collaborative decision-making in a strong team environment.
