The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure smooth daily library operations by maintaining the library automation system.  This is accomplished by producing daily reports used by the Circulation, Interlibrary Loan, and Tech Services departments.  Monthly and annual statistical data is also reported and recorded for use as needed.  The Library Systems Specialist will be the first responder to any technical issues that may be reported by staff or by patrons and will be required to act promptly to ensure that problems are resolved in a timely manner.  Close collaboration with IT staff is required, and this position will be the primary contact not only for the library automation vendor, but also for the many varied hardware and software vendors that the library currently uses.  Comprehensive knowledge of departmental policies and procedures is required as this position will involve not just some regularly scheduled evening and weekend shifts at the various service desks, but will also call for the ability to act with authority in the absence of the Library Administrator or Assistant Administrator.  Extensive experience in working with computers and technology is highly desirable, as is the ability to take on multiple tasks simultaneously.
