Description

Performs more difficult activities in land use planning, zoning, and demographics for the development and implementation of a master land use plan for the City.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervise and direct full-time and part-time employees of the Planning Department;
  • Perform more difficult work in the development and implementation of Comprehensive Land Use Plan and related elements;
  • Initiate and review departmental projects;
  • Review plats for proposed subdivisions, assisting the developers in the layouts of street patterns to comply with planning standards;
  • Supervise the preparation of maps, charts, and diagrams relative to planning;
  • Attend various meetings and present findings concerning preliminary plats to the Planning and Zoning Commission, Zoning Board of Adjustment, and City Council;
  • May supervise full-time and part-time employees of the Planning Department;
  • May supervise the preparation of maps, charts, and diagrams related to planning;
  • Maintain financial records for departmental affairs and prepare and monitor budget;
  • Answer citizen questions regarding zoning and the zoning code.

Qualifications:

Completion of a bachelor degree in planning, architecture, landscape architecture, civil engineering, geography, public administration, or a related field with an additional three years progressively responsible land use planning or related experience; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:
 

Valid Current Driver's License

Knowledge of:

  • The various applications of community planning;
  • Planning research methods, techniques, and equipment;
  • The principles and practices of municipal budgeting.

Ability to:

  • Prepare planning reports including graphic materials;
  • Supervise the work of others;
  • Establish and maintain effective public relations;
  • Communicate effectively with others;
  • Prepare and administer a budget.
