Summary

Under general supervision, performs accounting tasks of moderate difficulty in support of the financial activities and operations of the Town. Implement and administer reconciliation functions. Identifies any problems, collects information, and recommends solutions.

 

Essential Functions

Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Prepares multiple reconciliations to include bank reconciliations for the Town's general ledger accounts to ensure the accuracy of financial records.
  • Tracks revenue collection and reconciliation associated with assigned general ledger accounts; researches and corrects errors.
  • Assists in month-end and year-end closings and the annual audit process.
  • Participates in the preparation of the comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR); assists with data entry and formatting.
  • Performs detailed financial testing and trend analysis; participates in various projects as assigned.
  • Coordinates and works with internal and external parties to manages expectations, work-flow, and work processes; identifies areas for improvement.
  • Calculates, issues, and collects billings as assigned; tracks collection and reporting submitted by other staff.
  • Trains and assists staff as appropriate.
  • May be asked to perform additional job duties that are directly, indirectly or completely unrelated to normal job functions in the course of presenting certain Town special events.
  • Performs related duties as required or assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; AND three (3) years of experience in government of municipal accounting; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.  Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relations with fellow employees, Town officials, and outside contracts.  Safe driving record.  Clear criminal background check, clear pre-employment drug screen, and clear credit check.
 
Knowledge of:

  • Accounting theories, practices, and principles.
  • Automated accounting systems.
  • Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Records management and maintenance practices and procedures.

Skill in:

  • Performing repetitive accounting tasks with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Conducting research and preparing clear and concise reports.
  • Working with little or no direct supervision.
  • Completing projects and assignments in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.


LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A valid Texas Driver's License is required.

 

ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS
This is an exempt position; incumbent will be expected to work whatever hours are necessary to complete responsibilities.
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a standard office environment.  Office is in a two-story building without an elevator.  Work is generally performed indoors in an air-conditioned facility but may also include limited exposure to outside weather conditions.
