Conveniently located on the west coast of Florida between Tampa and Ft. Myers, the City of North Port is a vibrant, fast-growing community with 70,631 residents. Covering 104 square miles, North Port is the largest city in Sarasota County.

The City of North Port operates under a City Commission/City Manager form of government with the City Commission comprised of five members, including the Mayor.  Under the general direction of the City Attorney, the Assistant City Attorney provides a wide range of professional legal services to the City Commission, City Departments, and various boards and committees with particular emphasis in providing legal support to the Neighborhood Development Services (Planning & Zoning) and Finance Departments.

A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school is required, along with a minimum of three to five years of work experience as a practicing attorney, a substantial amount of which has been in the practice of local government law or a related field, including land use and zoning, labor and employment, real estate, litigation and appeals, administrative hearing, eminent domain, procurement/public finance, public records, and Sunshine Law. At least three to five years of experience in land use, procurement, and/or local government law is preferred. The selected candidate must be an attorney eligible to practice law in Florida with an active Florida Bar license and in good standing with the Florida Bar at the time of appointment. 

The City of North Port offers a competitive salary in the range of $89,920.90 - $134,881.14, depending on qualifications and experience. The City provides a generous benefits program including retirement with the Florida Retirement System (FRS), health, dental, life insurance, paid vacation, sick leave, and other professional development assistance.
