FORT BEND COUNTY

DEPARTMENT: ROAD & BRIDGE

JOB TITLE: ROAD & BRIDGE COMMISSIONER

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Provides executive leadership and oversight for the operations and activities of the Road and Bridge and Vehicle Maintenance Departments.  Ensures that projects are assigned, monitored, and completed in an efficient and effective manner.  Plans programs, policies or objectives for the department, subject to Commissioners Court approval.   

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directs personnel and manages activities of the Road and Bridge Department and the Vehicle Maintenance Department.  Plans, assigns, and monitors projects; and advises Commissioners Court on status of projects.  Communicates with the public, resolves any problems and/or questions or refers to proper person.  Prepares, tracks and monitors budget expenditures.  Reviews and authorizes equipment expenditures.  Plans, assigns and reviews work of those supervised.  Prepares and conducts performance appraisals.  Sets performance objectives/goals for Department.  Develops and maintains safety programs.  Maintains records and files reports as required.  Approves personnel actions: new employees, employee transfers, promotions, discipline (including discharge), merit increases, subject to County policy.  Facilitates staff meetings.  Selects seminars, conferences, and training sessions.  Works with County Attorney on project agreements and roadway litigation.  Assists cities on project agreements and attends City Council meetings.  Attends Homeowners Association meetings.  Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers. 

 

REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma/GED; One year of college.  Seven years of directly related work experience.  Excellent verbal and written communication, management, supervisory and organizational skills.  Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, and elected

officials.

 

SALARY RANGE: Executive Management, Commensurate with experience.
