Description | FORT BEND COUNTYDEPARTMENT: ROAD & BRIDGEJOB TITLE: ROAD & BRIDGE SUPERINTENDENT – SOUTH ZONE
JOB SUMMARY: Provides assistance to Road & Bridge Commissioner in meeting standards. Ensures that specific jobs and projects are administered efficiently, and in a timely manner in accordance with laws, policies, and procedures of the State and County. Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Plans and schedules assignments and projects and directs staff in management of activities to ensure completion of tasks as assigned. Advises Commissioner on status of all projects. Coordinates daily projects with Supervisors. Checks on-going and pending projects and plans long-term projects. Responds to complaints from the public by resolving or referring to proper party. Submits budget proposals for work group. Tracks or monitors specific budget expenditures. Recommends equipment expenditures. Monitors materials used or needed and orders accordingly. Develops and maintains safety program for work group and maintains safety records as outlined by Road Commissioner. Conducts staff meetings for assigned employees. Plans, assigns, and reviews work of those supervised and prepares/conducts performance appraisals. Assists and/or instructs others with their duties. Approves personnel actions: new employees, employee transfers, promotions, discipline (including discharge), merit increases, subject to Commissioner’s review. Plans and selects seminars, conferences, and training sessions. Attends Commissioners Court or civic association meetings as needed and coordinate projects with other entities. Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma/GED; Technical school or specialized training relevant to road and bridge construction/maintenance. Seven years of work experience in road construction and equipment maintenance. Computer and typing skills, working knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing, database software. Good verbal and written communication, supervisory, organizational and management skills. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, and elected officials. The ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner.
SALARY RANGE: Professional/Management, Grade 14, $2,872.00 - $3,378.40 biweekly, based on qualifications CLOSING DATE: Upon filling position
