Business Professional I (Working Title: Digital Services Coordinator):  This is a professional position responsible for planning, developing, coordinating and implementing the day-to-day digital communication strategies for Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources, web, and social media platforms.  This includes user experience, developing digital content for external and internal web content and social media channels, maintaining the library online catalog and administration of external library databases. A high degree of initiative and creativity is required for this position. The Digital Services Coordinator provides training for Libraries and Historical Resources web liaisons and users. The Digital Services Coordinator creates a welcoming digital environment for users of Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening

This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening.  An applicant who fails to pass a required drug-screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five years.

Duties:

Library Application Management

Responsible for the administration of the Libraries various online platforms, including creation, maintenance and promotion of services.  This includes but is not limited to the library catalog, discovery layer, events calendar and room reservation system, newsletters, user questions and troubleshooting library-related apps and platforms.

Maintenance

  • Interpret reported issues and communicate needs with application vendors when troubles arise.
  • Act as Editor for library newsletters and email promotions.
  • Remain abreast of library trends and innovations.
  • Use reader’s advisory to update users on new resources and materials available through libraries.
  • Communicate changes and updates to events and room reservation system to Libraries and Historical Resources staff.
  • Coordinate and maintain content for web, discovery and mobile-enabled interactive services that provide a quality user experience.
  • Communicate with Technical Services team and branch staff to prepare new library applications for launch and promotion.

     Administration

  • Facilitate meetings with Technology Coordinator, Communications and other Administrative teams to forecast system changes, develop promotional strategies, and communicate vision.

Social Media Management
Responsible for ensuring the county’s social media platforms content is current, consistent with established policy and plans. Serve as the primary point person for; copy-writing, editing, proofing and submitting organic Libraries and Historical Resources content for the county’s main social media platforms. Review social media analytics and effectively translate the data into actionable insights to constantly drive engagement. Coordinate with stakeholders and staff for cross-promotion, cross-platform opportunities and training.

Maintenance

  • Create, curate and submit relevant, high-quality and original content for the county’s social media accounts.
  • Develop and use Libraries and Historical Resources social media “voice”.
  • Develop social media campaigns, strategies and schedules for Libraries and Historical Resources social media submissions that are in line with the organization’s vision, mission and goals.
  • Coordinate with administration and staff to develop and implement annual and project-specific social media strategies, plans and editorial calendars. These include Summer at Your LibraryOne Book One CommunityBanned Books WeekTeen Read Week, author visits and more.

Administration

  • Oversee social media liaison team and facilitate meetings to support content development by branch staff.

Webmaster
Responsible for monitoring and ensuring Libraries and Historical Resources content is current, consistent with established style guides and functions properly using a cloud-based content management system. Serve as the Libraries and Historical Resources primary point person for user training, writing, editing and proofing content, troubleshooting department’s web services. Plan for future enhancements to the department’s website by staying current with software and processes to enhance the user experience.

Maintenance

  • Responsible for the design and function of the department’s website.
  • Create annual plans for the department’s external and internal websites.
  • Coordinate with staff and stakeholders to review and publish content.
  • Create graphics for website enhancement.
  • Research and review other CMS-generated sites to stay knowledgeable of trends and approaches to site functions and design. Report back to administration with opportunities and proposals to improve the department’s web presence.

Administration

  • Oversees Web Services and User Experience team and conducts meetings to support content development at the library level.

Training and Analytics

  • Train Libraries and Historical Resources staff on applications, including ways to remain up to date on social media trends and application development (begin during new employee orientation). 
  • Train Libraries and Historical Resources staff to promote applications, increase awareness of resources and assist in their use.
  • Create monthly analytics reports, translating anecdotal and qualitative data into recommendations and plans to improve engagement strategies.
  • Continuously assesses user interfaces and user experience.

Minimum Qualifications:  An Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university with three (3) years job-related experience OR a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in a job-related field; one-year job-related experience preferred. Five (5) years professional related experience can be substituted for the degree at management discretion.

Preferred Qualifications:  Master’s Degree in Library & Information Science.

Job Competencies:  

  • Must have knowledge and experience with social media platforms and understand how each platform can be deployed for multiple scenarios
  • Must be skilled in HTML, graphic and web design. Experience with Granicus and SharePoint preferred
  • Must be skilled in both verbal and written communication
  • Must be able to work independently as well as collaborate with teams and co-workers
  • Must be able to attend to details, with strong follow-through
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Should be proficient with photo editing software and applications

Physical Demands:  Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
