Incorporated in 1952, the City of Rowlett is a full-service municipality that operates under a home rule charter and functions under the Council/Manager form of government.

The Public Works Department has a $23,000,000 annual budget, 84 full-time employees, and an aggressive Capital Improvement Program. The department operates six divisions: Engineering Services, Utilities, Streets & Traffic Operations, Storm Water Management, Fleet Services, and Facilities Management. The Department also supports Emergency Management operations during disaster responses and provides debris removal and road de-icing services. 

The City of Rowlett is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Director of Public Works. The ideal candidate will be a progressive and dynamic leader who embraces a customer service philosophy. A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field combined with at least seven years’ experience involving design, construction, maintenance or operation of a variety of public works related functions is required. Municipal development experience in a reasonable growth environment is preferred, including five years in a supervisory capacity. Master’s Degree in Business, Public Administration, or Engineering Management is desirable and preferred. Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas or the ability to acquire a PE in Texas soon after hire is desirable. Competitive salary range is $110,399 - $142,000, based on qualifications.
