The Advanced Life Support Provider performs responsible protective services work providing emergency medical care at the scene of an injury or illness and during transport to medical facilities. The Advanced Life Support Provider supervises rescue units on calls; drives and operates EMS and Rescue vehicles and assists in the maintenance and repair of station and equipment. The ALS Provider must work well with other emergency services personnel often under hazardous and stressful conditions, responding promptly to directions given by the on – site supervisor. Performs other duties as assigned; reports to the Deputy Chief. High School diploma or equivalent; EMS experience at the ALS level in a blended (paid/volunteer) department or system preferred; Valid Virginia Driver’s license; must have an excellent driving record with the ability to meet and maintain Town insurability requirements with a minimum of two (2) years driving experience and be able to comply with state regulations covering drivers of emergency vehicles; Current (with the ability to maintain)EMT – Paramedic, EMT – Intermediate or Advanced-EMT certification from the Virginia Department of Health, Office of Emergency Medical Services; Within 1 (one) year of hire, must acquire and maintain the following course certifications: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) or Pre – Hospital Life Support (PHTLS).
