The City of Amarillo sits at the crossroads of America, almost equidistant from both coasts, with a population of 199,000 residents and covering 100 square miles. Amarillo is the 14th largest city in Texas in terms of population and is the county seat of Potter County. The Drainage Utility Division is entering its seventh year of operating and maintaining the City’s drainage system. The Drainage Utility Division maintains the City’s storm water drainage infrastructure utilizing recommended best practices for customer billing assistance, street sweeping, inspection, inventory management, cleaning, rehabilitation, and repair of all municipal drainage. Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Public Works, the Drainage Utility Superintendent provides overall management and oversight of the department’s daily operations and programs.

The selected candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, civil engineering, or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of responsible supervisory experience in a municipal government or a similar setting, with emphasis on drainage facility maintenance/ operations or construction, is required. A valid Texas driver’s license, or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire, is required. Licensing as a Professional Engineer with the Texas Professional Board of Engineers is preferred. If registered in another state, the chosen candidate must be able to obtain registration in Texas within one year of employment. The City will consider relevant work experience and/or education in determining an applicant’s minimum qualifications.

The annual salary range for this position is $65,000 - $95,000+ depending on qualifications and experience.
