Franklin Park, IL (pop. 18,500) The Village of Franklin Park is a mature, dynamic, thriving and diverse community located 15 miles west of downtown Chicago and immediately adjacent to O’Hare International Airport. The Village is a full-service community with a strong industrial and residential base. The FY20 General Fund budget is $28.9M and has an overall budget with enterprise funds of $62.5 encompassing the Village’s 150 full-time employees and 40 part-time employees.

Franklin Park has three Metra stations: Belmont Avenue on Metra's North Central Service, which provides daily rail service between Antioch, Illinois and Chicago, Illinois (at Union Station); Franklin Park and Mannheim on the Milwaukee District/West Line which connects Chicago to Elgin, Illinois.  This good location and easy access to O’Hare Airport cargo terminals, railroad freight terminals, major expressways for routing and spur tracks access the rear of many industrial buildings have made Franklin Park a desirable place for industry.

The Building Director is appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the Village Board of Trustees. The Department has a $814,000 dollar operating budget for 2020 with 9 employees in the Department including 4 inspectors.  The Department is charged with reviewing and processing building permits, inspecting building permit work, inspecting multi-family structures, maintaining vacant properties, preserving digital documents, implementing Green technology, issuing building permits, conducting Health inspections, overseeing property closings, supporting occupancy applications, and registering contractors. In 2018, the department received over 1,920 building permits, electrical permits and sign permits. 

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experiences:

• An ability to provide leadership for the Department in all aspects of the building community and work closely with other departments, including the Department of Community Development & Zoning on redevelopment projects.
• The desire to help create efficiencies within the department using a lean workforce and technology to improve inspection schedules and plan review timeframes.
• A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and seven years related building experience including five years’ supervisory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience that would demonstrate the skills and ability to perform the work.  Must have demonstrated knowledge of the construction industry and ICC/IBC knowledgeable and other comparable codes. 

The expected hiring salary range is $100,000 - $110,000 DOQ plus excellent benefits.
