JOB SUMMARY

Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in installation, repair and adjustment of traffic control signals, signs and street markings by performing the following duties.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Directs workers engaged in the installation, service and maintenance of traffic signals, school flashers, traffic and parking signs and street markings.
  2. Diagnose potential control, vehicle detection, signal display equipment issues, and take corrective action.
  3. Requisitions and inspects tools, equipment, materials and supplies, directing servicing and preventative maintenance to tools and equipment as necessary.
  4. Conducts, records and reports traffic flow surveys and counts.
  5. Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
  6. May personally operate tools, test equipment and perform activities of workers supervised.
  7. Maintains time, materials and maintenance records as prescribed.
  8. Inspects completed work for conformance to specifications, and standards. Interprets City policies to workers and enforces worker and job site safety regulations.
  9. Translate and apply relevant Federal, State, and Local policies for operation, installation, and maintenance of traffic control devices.
  10. Confers with supervisors and assists other municipal departments with regular activities or special community events.
  11. Assists other divisions of the Public Works Department as needed including standby and emergency call back.
  12. May perform other assignments and handle special projects as required.
  13. Regular and timely attendance is required as well as the ability to get along with others in a professional and cordial manner.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises employees in the particular area of responsibility. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; recommending employee rewards and discipline; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of traffic signs fabrication and traffic control symbols.  
  • Ability to input number data and retrieve basic information relating to traffic signs and signal information pertaining to work schedules on a computer.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. 
  • Ability to write simple correspondence. 
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  •  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. 
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS 

High school diploma / GED; and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement.

Must possess a TEEX certification in Traffic Control Systems,  IMSA certification in Work Zone Traffic Control and IMSA certification in Level II signals and Level II signs.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00am - 4:00pm
