SUMMARY OF POSITION:  Under administrative supervision, the purpose of this position is to have overall responsibility of the accreditation process for the Police Department. This includes the development and coordination of the accreditation and recognition activities.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Identifies, verifies, and reconciles compliance with established law enforcement standards, correcting any noted deficiencies through policy, training, or other administrative measures; Reviews standards and ensures the department remains in compliance; stays abreast of all aspects of the accreditation process to include amendments to the standards. Develops, writes, reviews, revises, and manages the departments catalog of policies and forms to ensure compliance with Texas Law Enforcement Best Practices Program and Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) recommends changes in policies and procedures as required by accrediting agencies; Maintains a standard format for policies to be reviewed and revised on a scheduled basis; maintains accreditation and recognition files. Conducts regular reviews with appropriate staff and revises department policy and procedure manuals and catalogs to ensure standard operating procedures are reliable and up-to-date. Coordinates on-site Texas Law Enforcement Best Practices Program and CALEA assessments and inspections; prepares and submits required reports and documentation to Texas Law Enforcement Best Practices Program and CALEA. Serves as a liaison between police administration and other department employees, and outside agencies in all accreditation and recognition efforts; regularly reports to agency staff on accreditation and recognition compliance. Provides accreditation and recognition related training to police personnel; ensures appropriate training for department employees on all new and revised policies.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Requires Associate’s Degree in Public or Business Administration or related field with four (4) years of experience in accreditation or recognition programs through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) or the Texas Police Chiefs Association Law Enforcement Best Practices Program or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Requires Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) certification.
  • Requires Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Awareness Certification within six (6) months of employment.
  • Texas Department of Public Safety Interpol certification preferred.

SALARY: $2,320.84 per month
