What You Will Be Doing

The Accountant II will perform professional accounting duties, including general ledger reconciliation, financial reporting and record keeping and to maintain a variety of accounts and general ledgers for various programs within the City.  This is accomplished by utilizing finance accounting software and other relevant documentation to identify activity related to capital improvement project accounting, capital asset accounting, roadway impact fee accounting, debt service management and balance sheet reconciliations.  Other duties include preparing journal entries and reports, annual tax abatement compliance, annual insurance re-rate, managing insurance claims, preparing annual division budget, grant management, and annual entry of budget to finance system. Other essential functions include:

  • Accounting activities: Execute accounting activities by complying with applicable standards and specifications including financial reports, general ledger reconciliation, bank statements reconciliation,  budgeting, auditing and record keeping; reviewing and analyzing various records and reports; preparing manual journal entries on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually basis to book non-automated transactions; allocating bulk expenditures; reclassifying general ledger account coding errors; preparing financial reports for various City departments; maintaining accurate financial records; maintaining, reconciling and auditing a variety of ledgers, reports and accounting records; examining and correcting accounting transactions to ensure accuracy; and tabulating financial and statistical data.
  • Provide key information: Provide information to Finance by explaining accounting transactions and resolving accounting issues and discrepancies; using various software applications, such as spreadsheets, relational databases, statistical packages, and graphics packages to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports; and maintaining a variety of accounts and ledgers.

What You Bring To Us

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent. 
  • Two (2) to five (5) years of relevant experience.
