Description

This position serves as the primary Fire Department liaison with Emergency Management personnel and will keep the Fire Chief apprised of the preparedness state and emergency management needs during potential emergency events. Duties include assisting with the development and update of the City of Irving emergency operations plan as it relates to the Fire Department, and providing assistance with staff training and emergency preparedness exercises; conducting public outreach activities to Irving citizens and City employees; serving as grant administrator for the Fire Department, responsible for Fire / EMS related grant research and applications, communications with grantor, adherence to grant conditions, and grant status reporting; and coordinating emergency volunteer services. Duties also include preparing warning and preparedness materials and other associated documents; making presentations to City officials, the media and the public; performing various research projects and assisting with administration of special programs; handling a variety of administrative and general office functions pertaining to Emergency Management; and assisting with the activation of the Emergency Operations Center when necessary. This position is contingent upon grant funding, but is expected to continue for a minimum of two years. A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in emergency management, business or public administration, or a related field and one year of relevant experience required. Must be available for 24-hour on‑call response; have knowledge of emergency management planning processes, laws and local government operations; and  have, or obtain within three months from date of hire, certificate of completion for National Incident Management System (NIMS) training (IS-100, IS-200, IS-800.B and IS‑700.A) from the Department of Homeland Security (FEMA). Must also have a high level of proficiency with MS Office products and possess, or be able to obtain, a valid Texas driver’s license. A résumé must be submitted with application.
