Description

GENERAL PURPOSE:  Under close supervision, maintains, services, and transports solid waste and recycling service collection containers in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

 

  • Operates, drives, and maintains vehicles, tools and equipment, including but not limited to a roll-off truck, container delivery truck, stake bed pick up, drill, winch, hydraulic and motorized power equipment and hand tools in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; and performs manual labor tasks as assigned.
  • Organizes and maintains inventory of solid waste containers, recycling bins, green waste bags, including but not limited to the cleaning, sanitizing, assembling, loading and unloading of containers.
  • Assists in providing for the delivery of high quality solid waste and recycling collection services to the public, according to City ordinances, policies, procedures and safety standards.
  • Transports, exchanges and services City-provided solid waste, recycling and green waste containers, and other service materials; determines fair wear and tear or customer abuse of containers; replaces containers according to division standards.
  • Recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

High School diploma or GED equivalent, AND one year of general manual labor experience.

 

Required Licenses or Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid Class B Texas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), or have the ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.

     

    Required Knowledge of:

  • City policies and procedures.
  • City safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards and safety precautions.

     

     

     

    Required Skill in:

  • Safe and efficient operation and maintenance of tools and equipment according to standard operating and safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of welding and metal cutting practices
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with City employees and the public.

     

    Physical Demands / Work Environment: 

  • Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions, with exposure to hazardous equipment and chemicals, dust, low to no light conditions, damp/wet surfaces and high noise levels and extended periods of sitting and driving; requires ability to climb, use fine motor skills and ability to safely reach, twist, lift, carry and move items weighing up to eighty (80) pounds.
  • May be required to work weekends, holidays and other irregularly scheduled times.  May be required to work immediately before, during or immediately after an emergency or disaster.

Starting minimum salary range is $13.05 - $15.66 per hour based on experience and qualifications. Benefits include Texas Municipal Retirement System; paid vacation and sick leave accrual; medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. EOE
