The Community Enhancement (Social Media) Intern is a qualified undergraduate or graduate student (all majors welcome) with an interest in learning about the Police Department and the use of social media in law enforcement. The goal of the internship is to provide the student a meaningful internship experience in the functions and work of social media in law enforcement. The Social Media Intern performs a variety of administrative and operational duties as developed and assigned by the Social Media Officer. This position will provide support in executing social media campaigns and events, creating content, measuring performance, and growing College Station Police Department's online community and brand awareness. The ideal candidate has a good understanding of digital media and an interest in the use of social media in law enforcement. As an eager-to-learn team player, the Social Media Intern is creative, communicative, and on top of industry trends.  Position reports to the Social Media Officer.

 

 Principal Duties:
  1. Create engaging social media content.
  2. Ensure proper messaging is being executed online.
  3. Create, coordinate, and organize data or content for use in digital marketing campaigns – this includes attending events to capture content (photos/videos.)
  4. Identify leaders and influencers (internal/external) and engage them in brand activities.
  5. Arrange planning and publishing calendars.
  6. Assist with creating and implementing educational campaigns.
  7. Assist with copywriting, proofing, and updating campaigns as needed.
  8. Observe social media sentiment for CSPD in the community.
  9. Keep aware of current social media platforms, their use, and potential audiences.
  10. Grow online social networks by increasing fan-base and interactions.
  11. Identify trending topics, stories, or memes on social platforms and communicate opportunities to tell CSPD's stories through those lenses.
  12. Perform research to identify events or media which could be used to depict the human side of law enforcement while reinforcing our mission, vision, and values.
  13. Research and analyze social media in law enforcement trends and best practices.
  14. Assist in adapting methods of delivering social content based on analytics and audience reaction.
  15. Prepare monthly updates or reports to track growth and success rates of campaigns.
  16. Perform related duties as assigned.

 

 Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED equivalent. Valid Driver's License. Reliable transportation to and from the Police Department. Basic / Intermediate level of computer knowledge and experience, specifically in graphic design. Ability to utilize word processing and data entry programs. Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
Positive and supportive attitude with people of all backgrounds and abilities. Motivated, self-starter who takes the initiative to seek out tasks from staff. Commitment to comply with confidentiality requirements and police policies. Supportive of the mission of the College Station Police Department. Excellent oral and written communication skills.  
Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail. Ability to make judgments based upon knowledge of department policies and procedures.
