Summary  

Repairs and overhauls municipal vehicles by performing the following duties.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

· Examines vehicles to discern the nature and extent of damage or malfunction.  

· Plans work procedure.  

· Raises vehicle, with hydraulic jack or hoist, to gain access to mechanical units bolted to underside of vehicle.  

· Removes unit such as engine, transmission, or differential.  

· Disassembles unit and inspects parts for wear.  

· Repairs or replaces parts such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, and bearings.   

· Overhauls or replaces carburetors, blowers, generator, distributors, starters, and pumps.   

· Rebuilds parts such as crankshafts and cylinder blocks.   

· Rewires ignition system, lights, and instrument panel.   

· Replace and adjusts brakes, aligns front end, repairs or replaces shock absorbent, and solders leaks in radiator.  

· Mends damaged body and fenders by hammering out or filling in dents an dwelling broken parks.   

· Replaces and adjusts headlights, and installs and repairs accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers.   

· Oversees emergency equipment installation and operation maintenance on emergency vehicles.  

· Other duties may be assigned.   

Education and/or Experience  

Associates’ degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.   

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations  

A valid Class B (CDL) Driver’s License with a clean driving record is required for this position. Driving is a requirement of this position.

Starting at $18.33/hourly
