What You Will Be Doing

The Wastewater Collection Technician and Collection Operator provides proper maintenance and operation of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems. This is accomplished by excavating for necessary repairs and/or installation of City mains, services, fire hydrants, water meters, meter box, valves and pumps. Additional duties include the safe operation of a variety of equipment in order to complete other projects such as landscaping, pavement, and/or R.O.W. restoration. Other duties include:

  • Water and Wastewater Job Proficiency: Maintains and/or repairs water lines, sewer lines, fire hydrants, lift stations, and relative components. Repairs manholes and/or vaults and removes and replaces manhole lids and/or meter box lids. Installs, reads, and/or replaces water meters. Cleans, maintains, and inspects all equipment, tools, and vehicles for safe operations and notifies any deficiencies to an immediate Supervisor.
  • Equipment Operation: Operates a variety of City equipment and vehicles including but not limited to: vac-trailer, excavators, pipe saws, chainsaws, light duty pickups, backhoe, dump truck, power tools, and other utility equipment.
  • Workplace Safety: Performs all work functions and operates all equipment in a safe manner to ensure the safety of self, co-workers, and the public. Follows all safety procedures, ensures a safe working environment and immediately reports any unsafe working conditions and ensures proper traffic control for jobsite safety.

What You Bring To Us

  • High School Diploma or equivalency.
  • Wastewater Collection Technician - No experience or certifications required. The Technician starting salary is $14.48/hr. 
  • Wastewater Collection Operator - Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience AND possession of a TCEQ (Texas Commission on Environmental Quality) Class C Water Distribution and/or Class II Wastewater Collection license. The Operator starting salary is $17.60/hr. 
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a Class B Commercial Texas Driver's License within 12 months. 
  • Ability to remain flexible with your schedule. Work may require unusual hours and the ability to be on call after business hours.
