Lubrication Technician

Summary: Under close supervision, checks lubrication fluid levels in vehicles and equipment; adds fluids and changes filters for Equipment Services Department (ESD) fleet Mechanics.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • As directed, assists Mechanics with maintenance on fleet vehicles and equipment; checks fluid levels, adds fluids, and changes filters as needed; maintains shop facility, cleans work areas, cleans up spills, and disposes of lubricants and chemicals in compliance with safety regulations and ESD procedures; duties may vary according to job assignment.
  • Steam clean and wash vehicles and equipment as needed for service.
  • Learns to inspect vehicles and equipment, and perform minor repair, maintenance, and cleaning tasks.
  • Supports the departmental operations with regular and timely attendance.
  • Supports the relationship between the City of Odessa and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:  High school diploma or GED preferred.  One (1) year of servicing automotive equipment experience.

Knowledge of:

  • State and City safety rules and regulations, including safety practices in a shop environment.

Skill in:

  • Operating and maintaining tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
  • Closely following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
  • Following and maintaining ESD safety standards.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.  
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

License and certification requirements:  A valid Texas Driver License is required.

Physical demands and working environment: Work is performed in fleet repair and maintenance facilities; may be exposed to safety hazards and dangerous tools and equipment. City approved safety shoes must be worn.
