OPEN UNTIL FILLED                     PAY RATE DOE + Q                                $59,485.00 - $75,417.00

Under direction, to supervise, assign, review and participate in the work of staff responsible for the installation, maintenance, and construction of raw and treated water lines, meters, pumping equipment, chemical storage and feed system, and production equipment; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
 
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
 
Exercises direct supervision over technical and maintenance staff.

Examples of Duties:

Supervise, plan, and assign the work of employees in various skill levels including pump station mechanics and instrumentation technicians.

Supervise, train, and evaluate staff.
 
Oversee work being done by various contractors on treatment plants, pump stations, and other projects.
 
Manage mechanical and ground maintenance for the following: 2-25 MGD Water Treatment Plants, 1-12 MGD Water Treatment Plant, several raw and treated water pump stations, 3 lakes with dams and spillways, 8-Elevated Storage Tanks, and raw water disinfection facilities. 
 
Review and manage lake management issues for Phantom, Kirby, and Abilene including facility inspections, public issues, drownings, enforcement, and lease issues.
 
Prepare annual budget, strategic planning, work orders, parts and equipment for Instrumentation and mechanical groups.
 
Report to and regularly communicate with Assistant Director(s) and Director on issues and projects.
 
Organize the process of water scalping on the Clear Fork Pump Station.  This includes all mechanical work, labor coordination and ensuring that all regulatory procedures have been met.
 
Management of extensive preventative maintenance activities, and maintain detailed records of all activities in order to provide the necessary information for report creation.
 
Troubleshoot, repair, or determine replacement of equipment for Water Treatment, Water Production, Environmental Lab, and Water Distribution.
 
Strategic Planning and budgeting for the Water Production division.
 
Order materials, chemicals, and equipment for general maintenance inventory management

OTHER JOB RELATED DUTIES
 
Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of:
           
Methods, materials, practices, and equipment used in the construction, maintenance, and repair of water and sewer distribution, transmission or collection systems.
 
Occupational hazards and standard safety precautions necessary in the work.
 
Location and general characteristics of the assigned system.
 
Principles of plumbing, pumping, and hydraulics as related to the work.
 
Principles of low and medium voltage electrical switch gear and related control panels and mechanisms as related to the work.
 
Safe driving principles and practices.
 
Skill to:
           
Operate and care for a variety of tools and equipment used in water and sewer system maintenance and repair activities especially chemical feed equipment.
 
Operate modem office equipment including computer equipment.
 
Operate a motor vehicle safely.
 
Ability to:
           
Develop and implement policies and procedures.
 
Plan and supervise the work of crews engaged in a variety of maintenance, construction, and repair activities.
 
Read and interpret blueprints, plans, sketches, and diagrams.
 
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
 
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.

Experience and Training Guidelines:
 
Any combination equivalent to experience and training to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying.  Knowledge, skills, and abilities may be obtained through:
 
Experience:
           
Five (5) years of experience in the construction, maintenance, and repair of water pump stations or treatment plants is preferred.
 
Education/Training:
           
A High School diploma or a GED is required.    
 
License or Certificate:
           
Possession of, or ability to obtain within 6 months, a B Water License is required.
 
A valid and current Texas Driver's license, the ability to obtain one within ten (10) days of employment, or a military waiver is required.
 
Special Requirements:
 
Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:
 
Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, and climb.
 
Exposure to cold, heat, noise, outdoors, confining work space, chemicals, explosive materials, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards.
 
Ability to travel to different sites.  
 
With or without accommodation, ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
