Traffic Control Technician:  This position is skilled work in the fabrication, installation, maintenance and repair of traffic control devices to include traffic signs, pavement markings, delineators, barricades, cones, raised pavement markers and any other device related to Traffic Operations.  It also includes programming and deployment of message boards, arrow boards, etc.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening:  This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening.  An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five years.

Duties:

Sign Installation:

• Perform locates where traffic signs and other apparatus is to be installed

• Fabricate and install signs and posts

• Fabricate and install delineators, barricades, cones and raised pavement markers

• Load and deploy cones and barricades as directed

• Program and deploy message boards and arrow boards as directed

• Clean and maintain existing signs and other traffic control devices

• Perform other traffic operations related functions as directed

Maintain Equipment:

• Clean and service equipment and work area used in installation and repairs of traffic signs and signals

• Perform other duties and directed by management and supervisors

Minimum Qualifications:  A High School Diploma or its equivalent.  Ability to obtain a valid Florida Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of appointment.  Must  successfully complete the International Municipal Sign Association (IMSA) sign and road markings course Level I within one year of employment.****Incumbents must maintain Class "B" CDL in order to remain employed.**** 

Job Competencies:  Ability to learn local standards for traffic control devices.  Ability to learn Federal, State and local standards regarding traffic and control devices.  Ability after training to use tools and equipment used in the installation and repair of traffic control devices.  Ability to learn safety regulations as they apply to the installation and repair of traffic control devices. Ability to work under adverse weather conditions.

Physical Demands:  This position must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
