POSITION:  PAYROLL SUPERVISOR

DEPARTMENT: HUMAN RESOURCES/PAYROLL

STARTING SALARY RANGE: $54,427- - $69,990 PER YEAR; SALARY IS DEPENDENT UPON EXPERIENCE

THE LIFE OF A PAYROLL SUPERVISOR:  As Payroll Supervisor for the City of Edmond, you will be responsible for managing all payroll functions for approximately 850 employees.  This includes processing and accounting for payroll, payroll taxes, payroll audits, payroll reporting and pension administration.  Additionally, the Payroll Supervisor is responsible for leading and managing one staff member and working as a team with all human resources staff.  The role also includes consultation to executive leadership, management, City Attorney, Human Resources, and the Information Technology team regarding payroll and compensation, policies and practices, and HRIS software.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Our ideal candidate is detailed oriented, analytical and methodical, with experience and deep knowledge of payroll administration and regulations.  We also value integrity, team spirit and strong organizational skills.  Most importantly, the ideal candidate must demonstrate an ability to establish and maintain strong and meaningful relationships with others which will inspire trust with City employees.

The City of Edmond is planning for future technology changes in the area of payroll and benefits.  As such, the Payroll Supervisor will need to be proficient in technology alignment, transition and implementation of a payroll and benefits system.

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or closely related field or 5 years of experience in Payroll Management, including two (2) years of supervisory & managerial experience required. 
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of payroll calculation and processing.
  • Extensive knowledge of payroll/HR systems.
  • Working experience of current payroll tax at the federal, state and local levels.
  • Ability to manage and lead staff to excellent performance.
  • Highly organized, analytical and methodical.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality.
  • An effective collaborator to partner with Human Resources, Benefits, Finance and Information Technology in alignment & implementation of a payroll & benefits system.

Preferred:

  • Certified as a Payroll Professional.
  • Prior system conversion experience.
  • Ability to interpret union contracts.
