Description | FORT BEND COUNTYDEPARTMENT: DRAINAGE DISTRICTJOB TITLE: ENGINEER II
JOB SUMMARY: Ensures no adverse impact to existing drainage capacities within the County by reviewing proposed development designs, managing drainage improvement projects, designing drainage structures and responding to drainage concerns of the public and other departments. Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Reviews construction plans, plats and drainage studies to ensure compliance with County regulations. Recommends minimum slab elevations to County Engineering Department. Performs engineering calculations and design drainage structures for County departments and the public. Reviews drainage studies and designs by other registered professional engineers. Investigates and responds to drainage concerns of the public and other government entities. Negotiates and acquires easements for drainage improvement projects. Generates and evaluates proposed easement documents. Gathers and evaluates rainfall runoff data on major drainage ways throughout county. Performs HEC modeling and create drainage reports for unstudied streams. Assists in the evaluation of drainage standards/regulations and the use of Drainage District resources. Manages budget expenditures for drainage improvement projects. Reviews and approves payment for private engineers, contractors and consultants. Oversees Drainage District construction projects. Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field. Five years’ experience in civil engineering or related field with general experience in hydrology and hydraulics. Strong verbal and written communication, math, computer and organizational skills; interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, and elected officials. Ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner and prioritize own work. Certified Floodplain Manager Certification. Registered Professional Engineer preferred.
SALARY RANGE: Professional/Management Grade 13, $2,532.00 - $2,980.00 biweekly based on qualifications CLOSING DATE: Upon filling position
