Description | FIRE CHIEF VILLAGE OF SUAMICO, WI (Population 12,735)
Located on the beautiful shores of the Bay of Green Bay, Lake Michigan just north of Green Bay, WI the Village of Suamico is seeking a highly motivated and qualified leader to become its new full-time Fire Chief. Suamico is a rapidly growing community with a range of options for people wanting to live in a rural and sustainable setting yet close to many unique urban type amenities. Suamico is a full-service community that prides itself on being a great place to live, work, play, learn and visit. The Village is committed to providing exceptional fire protection services to its residents (2019 population 12,676).
Responsible for the daily and long-term operations of the Fire Department and serving as the Village’s Emergency Management Director, the Fire Chief reports directly to the Village Administrator and works collaboratively with the Fire Commission and Village Board. With a commitment to maintaining a positive workplace culture, the Chief oversees training and development of personnel and makes recommendations concerning hiring, promotion and discipline to the Commission (1 FT and 40 Paid On-Call Employees). The Chief establishes and implements departmental goals and objectives. Responsibilities include fulfilling the duties of command officer at emergencies; preparing the annual budget and maintaining sound fiscal practices; collaborating with internal and external stakeholders and developing standards for fire safety codes. Will oversee the construction of the Village’s second fire station ($6M Budget) in 2020 and all planned future capital equipment purchases.
Require a minimum of 5 years full time progressive fire service supervisory responsibility in a fire department. Emergency Services Instructor and Emergency Management Training desired. Must possess Wisconsin Firefighter I &II, Fire Officer I or obtain within 18 (eighteen) months of hire. National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100,200,700 and 800 Compliance; NIMS 300 and 400 certifications or ability to obtain within 18 (eighteen) months of hire. Valid Wisconsin Motor Vehicle Operator’s license (or ability to obtain within 6 (six) months) and acceptable driving record. Residency within 15 (fifteen) miles of the Village within 6 (six) months of hire.
Desire a strong background in budget development; community relations; fire operations management and organizational change and development with a high level of emotional intelligence, integrity and commitment to public service. Must have demonstrated experience in working harmoniously with elected officials and a team builder in addressing community issues and problems. Desired qualifications include; Bachelor’s Degree in fire science, public administration or related field, Graduate of the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer program; Emergency Services Instructor, Emergency Management training; specialized training in a variety of fire related activities.
Salary: $70,000 to $75,000/year depending upon qualifications and experience with an excellent fringe benefit package.
