Under general supervision, performs professional level work in the field of current planning, development review and analysis. Responsible for processing zoning cases, subdivision plats, and site development plans from application to final approval. Participates in long-range and special project planning and research. Attends Planning and Zoning Commission and Board of Adjustment meetings. Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Job Functions

• Processes and prepares zoning cases.

• Conducts subdivision review and development plan review.

• Prepares technical comments.

• Confers with citizens, architects, engineers, builders, etc. on general zoning and researches history and background of zoning ordinances and various projects for other city departments and the general public.

• Processes general planning and zoning information requests over the telephone and walk-in traffic.

• Administers and interprets applicable state and local codes, ordinances, plans and regulations in the review of various development applications including plats, site plans, building permits, special use permits, variance requests, re-zonings, applications for signs, and certificates of occupancy.

Minimum Requirements

Graduation from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Urban and/or Regional Planning, Geography, Public Administration or related field, with one year of related experience required. Master's degree with major coursework in Urban Planning can be used to substitute for the required experience.

Proficient in the following areas:

• Geographical Information System (GIS)

• Microsoft Suite

• Has ability to work within a collaborative team environment and communicate effectively with project team and manager.

Other Requirements

Valid Class "C" Driver's License. Must have and maintain a good driving record in accordance with the driving standards as established by the City of Rowlett. Must report all traffic citations to his/her departmental Director or his/her designee pursuant to City policy.
