Wellness Nurse II - RN: Provides skilled professional clinical nursing care, including preventive counseling, treatment and education, to current and prospective County employees and dependents (>18 y.o.). This position works under the direction and protocols approved by the Medical Director.  Responsible for coordinating individual and/or group employee comprehensive, holistic medical, wellness and occupational care with the Medical Director, Wellness Center staff, Manager of Occupational Health & Wellness, workers’ compensation third party administrator staff, and the Employee Health & Benefits team.

Duties:

  • Provides quality, competent evidence based occupational health nursing services such as; pre-placement, DOT and Public Safety employee physicals, periodic exams, respirator clearance (SCBA and N-95), EKG’s, hearing assessment, PPD’s, immunizations and other necessary testing as required by specific job descriptions of employees.  Responsible for collecting specimens and routine laboratory tests such as, urine drug screens, breath alcohol, sputum samples, cholesterol and glucose (blood), vital signs, and other cultures/specimens as deemed necessary. Follows current universal precautions and infection control techniques.  Ensures that COHC, BAT-DOT and other necessary occupational health credentialing is maintained during course of employment.  Maintains proper follow up case/care management of occupational and non-occupational care.  Provides one-on-one health coaching/education regarding healthy lifestyle choices (exercise, nutrition, stress, etc.); proper preventive medical care and basic medical benefit information to employees and dependents.  Maintains accurate & current employee medical charts in a HIPAA compliant manner, accurately enters data in various systems, and provides monthly reports as requested.  Provides various occupational health  or wellness services through county locations such as; PPD clinics; health screenings, immunizations and other services as needed
  • Author’s professional medical/preventive content for various communications (e-mails, telephone, published documents, in-person, etc.).  Ensures that the procedure and protocol manual is updated and maintained.  Establishes and maintains professional communication and team atmosphere with medical director and all other staff.  Assists with Fit for Duty exam coordination.  Orders medical supplies and vaccines.  Assists the Manager of Occupational Health & Wellness during absences.
  • Processes medical appeals for the medical plan; works with other team members and other professionals to suggest a decision on behalf of the organization.
  • Attends required county meetings and continuing education programs as required for employment and nursing license.  Performs other procedures that are within the scope of practice of the incumbent’s level of training and licensure as set forth in the protocols approved by the Medical Director.

Minimum Qualifications:  Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.  Current Florida State Registered Nurse license and current CPR card.  Must have two (2) years of experience as a registered nurse.  Prefer experience in an occupational health setting.  Valid Florida Driver's License.

Job Competencies:  Current Florida State Registered Nurse license & current CPR certification.  Not required but recommended; certified to administer urine drug screening & BAT for CDL employees.
