Microsoft Systems Administrator

Summary: The incumbent in the position will be responsible for Office 365, SharePoint and System Center administration. This position will assist in planning, designing, updating and implementing Microsoft applications for City of Odessa employees. This position will serve as technical lead in related projects and operational duties, including OS deployment, Microsoft system updates, active directory/licensing management, SharePoint administration and other duties as assigned.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Office 365, SharePoint and System Center administration

  • Ensuring the operational health of the SharePoint online environment including security, availability, performance, interoperability and reliability.
  • Administration, support and configuration of MS Office O365 for staff.
  • Maintenance/sustainment of existing client SharePoint sites and sub sites, lists, libraries and content (including pages, workflows and items)
  • Maintenance and sustainment of additional complementary functionality for customer sub sites, lists, libraries and content.
  • Create, Maintain and deploy OS, Microsoft update and software deployments.

General IT: End user support and training for hardware and software

  • Assist with training and educating end-users on O365 capabilities and collaboration tools (OneDrive, Skype, OneNote, Outlook, etc.)
  • Providing end-user support for all PC based hardware, applications and services.
  • New user setup and orientation including installing and configuring workstations, software, telephone services, network printing etc.
  • Maintain and provide support for all IT infrastructure.
  • Provide tier 3 support and troubleshooting.
  • Troubleshoot OS, Network and storage related issues.

Operational Security, Maintenance and Governance

  • Perform software upgrades and patches (bios, firmware upgrades etc.)
  • Troubleshoot various Office 365 issues including connectivity and mobility.
  • Conduct routine monitoring and analysis to include Audit Log Reports evaluation, system and storage utilization reports, site and system usage, growth reports and manage site collection quota settings.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong analytical, problem solving and issue resolution skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to identify, prioritize and execute tasks to meet critical project deadlines.
  • Proven interpersonal, written and oral communication skills; experience interacting with clients, projects stakeholders, and/or customer support representatives.

Must be proficient in the following technologies:

  • Microsoft Windows Server
  •  
  • VMware vSphere
  • Microsoft Enterprise O365
  • SharePoint Administration
  • System Center Configuration Manager
  • Active Directory, including Group Policy Objects
  • Network and Log monitoring
  • Databases such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL
  • PowerShell scripting skills
  • Networking principles and best practices.

 

 

Education, Training & Experience Guidelines :Bachelor's Degree in computer science, computer engineering, management information systems, information technology, or a similar field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for a degree. Technical certifications in systems administration or network administration related studies is a plus. Four years of increasingly responsible applications, systems analysis or systems design experience with at least one year in an infrastructure or network function team is highly preferred.

 License and certification requirements: id Texas Driver License must have a CJIS compliant background check

 Special Requirements: Must carry a cell phone 24 x7 to communicate with IT supervisory staff.
