Sarasota County Human Resources' internship program will provide an in-depth exploration into the many facets of Human Resources through a structured schedule that will expose you to the many diverse functions of HR. Those functions include: Workforce Planning, Risk & Safety Management, Ethics, Training & Development, as well as Data Management & Analysis. 

 

Intern Responsibilities:

  • A presentation to the County Administrator and other County Leadership staff is required at the close of the internship program.
  • Participation in organized intern events.

Job Duties:

Workday

  • Create templates:
    • Candidate communications
    • Hiring authority communications
    • Job ads
  • Assist with new platform implementation

EnPlug

  • Create content:
    • Contact meant to inform intern SC Gov employees of upcoming events, health & benefits program opportunities and more.
    • Content meant to inform citizens that visit our building of upcoming events, facts about the county, other initiatives currently taking place and much more.
    • Assist with scheduling when certain content should run, for how long, etc. to best utilize the system.

Social Media

  • Similar to EnPlug, you will create content for our social media platforms. Here are some examples of that content:
    • Employee quotes
    • Job highlights
    • What's happening in HR?
    • Search existing assets
  • Assist with scheduling when certain content should run, for how long, etc. to best utilize the system.

Event Management - assist with preparation and organization of:

  • Professional Development Intern Events
  • HR Management Series: Successful Hiring Practices
  • ADA Anniversary Event
  • Service Awards Events

Badges

  • Assist with creating and printing badges for new or existing employees.

I-9 Audit

Risk & Safety Management

  • Analyze claims made against the County and understand the legal standards used to determine the County’s responsibility for settling those claims.
  • Identify situations and circumstances that pose a threat to employees and staff
  • Identify basic Risk Management strategies to reduce the risk of loss to an organization

Other Duties:

  • A presentation to the County Administrator and other County Leadership staff is required at the close of the internship program. 
  • Ideal competencies for this position include but are not limited to: ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing; flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced atmosphere; along with creative problem-solving skills.

Non-Essential Functions: 

  • Other duties and/or special projects as assigned.  

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be currently enrolled in high school, or a college/university, seeking a graduate (post-baccalaureate) degree or senior level graduate studies.  (Proof of current enrollment required at time of application.) May consider recent graduate of a college/university program.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidates currently working toward a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Marketing or Business.  

Specific knowledge, skills, abilities and/or machines, equipment, special tools as required for the job:

  • Proficient with Microsoft programs including Word, Power Point and Excel.
  • Ability to interact with community members from a variety of backgrounds and ages.
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to transport/him/herself to locations in Sarasota County.
  • Previous human resources, social media, marketing or training/education experience a plus.
  • Experience with Canva or other design program a plus.
