Description

The City of Corona is searching for a dynamic executive with a proven track record of working with local, state and federal agencies; and able to effectively work with elected officials, employees, and community members. 

 
The Assistant City Manager must be able to oversee the implementation of City-wide goals and objectives, negotiate contracts and solutions on a variety of administrative, fiscal and special projects, and participate on a variety of boards and commissions.

Some of the position's requirements include:

  • Graduation from a four year college or university with a major in public administration, business administration, or related field.
  • Ten or more years of professional and managerial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • MPA or MBA preferred.
  • Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license in order to travel to City functions and events, and to meet with various public and private representatives and groups.


The position is an At-Will position and is FLSA Exempt – ineligible for overtime compensation.


THE IDEAL CANDIDATE 
 
The ideal Assistant City Manager will have a proven record in local government with a customer service focus, excellent judgment, attention to detail, superb communication skills, and a hands-on approach to producing superior work product.  The Assistant City Manager should be a great team player who serves as a role model for the organization and the community while working closely with the City Manager in a variety of areas.  As such, the Assistant City Manager will be routinely partnered with the City Manager for a variety of internal and external projects, activities, and strategic planning.
 
Key to this role will be a leadership style that drives action, encourages sound communication throughout the organization, and builds a strong team-oriented culture throughout the City.  Internally, an open and active communication and relationship building style will be imperative.  The Assistant City Manager must be a passionate public servant whom embodies and models the highest level of honesty, integrity, and ethics.

A City whose heritage spans more than a century, the City of Corona, located in Riverside County, California, encompasses around 40 square miles and has a vibrant, culturally diverse population of approximately 168,100 residents. THE ORGANIZATION
 
The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government.  Policy making and legislative authority is vested in the City Council, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members.  Members of the City Council are elected by District to a four-year term.  The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year. The City is organized into various departments such as Administrative Services, Community Development, Department of Water and Power, Fire, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Library and Recreations Services, Maintenance Services, Management Services, Police, and Public Works. The City's total operating budget for Fiscal Year 2019/20 is $335.8 million with a General Fund operating budget of $139.5 million. Corona enjoys a workforce of 810 dedicated employees who provide high quality services to its residents and visitors each day.
