The City of Hurst, nestled between Dallas and Fort Worth, is inviting candidates to be considered for the Programming and Outreach Librarian opening. 

The Programming and Outreach Librarian assists in the daily operations of Hurst’s library system.  The role includes planning and implementing library programming activities, maintaining collections, providing instruction to patrons in use of library components and assists in providing work guidance to the library team of assistants, aides and volunteers. 

The ideal candidate will support the Library Manager in coordinating the daily operations of the Hurst Library, including over 130 programs a year with attendance exceeding 7,400 people.  In addition, this position also operates the Reference Desk, which is a critical front line position at the library, handling over 44,200 citizens inquiries per year.  This position includes working some evenings and Saturdays.

We are pleased to offer a pay range of $21.00-$23.00 per hour, depending on qualifications. The City provides a comprehensive benefits package for employees and their families. Essential Job Functions

1. PROVIDES information and reference services in person and over the phone to the public.  

2. PLANS, SCHEDULES and IMPLEMENTS Library programming.

3. COORDINATES with outside organizations seeking to utilize library space to provide programming or conduct outreach activities. 

4. COORDINATES publicity for the Library, including displays and press releases.

5. DRIVES large outreach vehicle. 

6. ADMINISTERS Library social media content.

7. DEVELOP and SCHEDULES displays and exhibits.  

8. ATTENDS professional meetings and REPRESENTS the Library in the community.

9. PARTICIPATES in writing and administering library grants.

10. SOLICITS community donations in support of library programs. 

11. ASSISTS in maintaining collections, interlibrary loans, microfiche, and related equipment.  

12. COMPILES statistics and reports on programming.

13. ASSISTS in providing work guidance to library assistants, part-time aides, and volunteers.  

14. ASSISTS in other departments as needed.

15. PERFORMS all other related duties as assigned

 

Minimum Education, Certification and Experience Qualifications

ALA accredited master’s degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science preferred.  Bachelor’s degree required.  One to three years directly related experience required.
