Under the direction of the Marketing Manager, the Public Communications Assistant coordinates citizen programs, office activities, and facilitates daily operations of the Public Communications Office, to include but not limited to, providing assistance as needed with community outreach, brand management, quality assurance, and marketing. Work requires the ability to complete a variety of tasks with attention to detail, proactively, efficiently and independently, in order to meet strict deadlines and department standards.

 

 Principal Duties:
  1. Responsible for planning, coordinating, organizing, and maintaining the activities related to the city's Community Living Course and Citizens University; to include, but not limited to, conducting lectures, scheduling logistics, maintaining registrations,  ensuring appropriate supplies and materials are available, and managing related records.
  2. Provide support for the department in areas such as greeting and providing assistance to office visitors, ordering office supplies and promotional items, coordinating fiscal aspects of the department, and maintaining city-related calendar information.
  3. Prepare and submit business card, envelope, and name badge orders for all city departments.
  4. Assist with maintaining content on the city's website and management of the city's SurveyMonkey account.
  5. Assist with development and execution of marketing projects, plans, and schedules.
  6. Perform other duties, as assigned.

 

 Qualifications:
Required:     
Associate's degree in public relations, journalism, communications, education or related field, and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficient at public speaking.
Ability to set priorities, multi-task, manage time, and complete work thoroughly in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word and Excel.
 
Preferred:    
Experience with public speaking and/or program coordination. Knowledge of Associate Press Style (AP Style). Experience with Adobe Creative Suites: Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
