Description
Provide leadership and direction to City and/or contractor crews in the safe and economical expansion and maintenance of the electric transmission and distribution systems. 

 

 Principal Duties:
  1. Select, orient, train, evaluate, plan and direct the work of crews engaged in the construction, maintenance and repairs of electrical overhead and underground distribution and transmission systems.  Interpret, explain and enforce City policies and procedures.
  2. Responsible for the performance of crews for compliance with prescribed operating and safety standards.  Develop job schedules/scope, assign duties and monitor task completion.  Promote continuous improvement and support employee involvement in decision making for meeting the division's goals; assist employees in the development of professional and technical skills.  Resolve internal and external division conflicts. Investigate, administer, document and follow up on complaints or disciplinary actions.
  3. Establish and maintain effective working relationships and communication with the general public, private contractors, other governmental agencies and other City employees; coordinate division activities with other divisions/departments/contractors; and resolve customer complaints and problems.
  4. Assist in developing operating procedures and standard maintenance practices.  Establish and maintain various work management data; prepare daily, weekly, and/or monthly activity reports.
  5. Prepare and review material requisitions associated with construction and maintenance projects. Ensure tools and equipment are adequate and in proper working order; order supplies, parts, etc.
  6. Troubleshoot complex equipment failures and assist in the resolution of technical problems.
  7. Ability to perform crew foreman duties in emergency situations.
  8. Prepare and interpret drawings and sketches.  Complete work orders for the purpose of documentation and mapping of the electrical distribution and transmission system.
  9. Perform other duties as required.

 

 Qualifications:
Required:       
High school diploma or GED equivalent. Three (3) or more years of supervisory experience. Seven (7) or more years experience in electrical distribution field. Texas Driver License. Knowledge of materials used in the electrical distribution and transmission industry. Must maintain a residence within a 40 minute response time of the Utility. Service Center within 6 months of accepting position. Ability to perform essential duties in an environment that entails a variety of weather conditions and extreme temperatures; frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping, climbing, and pushing/pulling; and physically lifting and moving objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Available to work on-call, emergency response, weekends and evenings.
 
Preferred:       
Class "A" CDL with airbrake endorsement issued by the State of Texas.
