Description

Under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Director, the Parks Supervisor is responsible for coordinating, supervising, inspecting, and reviewing the work of the Parks Division employees. This position will have input on maintenance, construction, and purchases made related to the parks operations. The Parks Supervisor is responsibile for setting standards and schedules related to maintenance.

  • Establish safety as a priority by monitoring and enforcing all safety standards. Safely operates a variety of Public Works equipment.
  • Direct Parks department employees’ daily work performance to ensure all job duties, tasks and activities are completed according to work instructions, defined procedures and policies and are performed in a safe manner, to achieve departmental goals and objectives.  Establish and review maintenance schedules for efficient operations.
  • Monitors, inspects, and participates in the maintenance of parks, parking lots, drinking fountains, restrooms, playgrounds, turf, trees, walkways, signs, fences, pavement striping and all other park related items to insure proper function and maintenance.  Performs maintenance on equipment and facilities as necessary.
  • Prepares and maintains regularly scheduled reports and create reports as necessary.
  • Responds to citizen inquiries and complaints pertaining to parks and related matters.
  • Coordinates activities with other city departments.  Coordinates construction and maintenance activities between contractors, property owners, outside agencies, or other individuals.
  • Attends meetings such as pre-construction, preliminary project walk-throughs, and other meetings as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Parks and Recreation.
  • Supports the relationship between the City and the public through courteous and cooperative interactions
  • Identifies, records and reports problems that interfere with completion of job duties, and initiates, recommends or provides solutions as appropriate.
  • Observes and recommends changes related to park(s) and related facilities. Provides input on park related projects, necessary purchases, field updates.
  • Keeps work areas clean and orderly.
  • Exemplifies a cooperative attitude to work effectively with others.
  • Protects classified, confidential and sensitive information.

Preferred Qualifications & Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • CPSI-National Playground Safety Institute
  • CPO or AFO with a Splash Pad Certificate
  • CPRP-National Recreation and Parks Association
  • Licensed Irrigator
  • Certified Arborist
  • CPTM/MCPTM- Texas Turfgrass Association

Experience, Education, Certifications & Licenses

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Texas Class C Drivers License with good driving record.
  • Five (5) years of progressive Park Maintenance Experience of which three (3) of those years must be in a supervisory capacity.
  • TDA Applicator’s License with endorsements 3(a) and 5 within 6 months of hire.
  • Computer skills related to Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Valid Texas Class B CDL Driver's License or ability to get within 1 year of hire date.
