Description

The Parks Maintenance Technician I works under the direct supervision of the Parks Supervisor and performs semi-skilled landscaping, construction, beautification, general maintenance and repair tasks related to parks, trails, athletic fields, public open space and grounds development. This position will be crucial to achieving the overall objectives and goals of the Parks & Recreation Department.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Establish safety as a priority by monitoring and enforcing all safety standards and perform all work activities in a safe manner.
  • Assists in the preparation, operation and takedown of special events hosted by the City.
  • Plants seeds, grass, plants and flowers as directed.

Performs:

  • Routine general and preventative maintenance such as but not limited to beautification, cleaning, painting, changing light bulbs, waste/litter removal, sweeping and raking.
  • Routine and preventative maintenance of equipment including preparing equipment for use.
  • Safely operates mowers, blowers, line trimmers, hedge trimmers, and various other manual and motorized tools and equipment.
  • Inspections and repairs minor irrigation issues.
  • Monitors and maintains playground and park structures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Parks Supervisor.
  • Provides superior customer service to all internal and external customers.
  • Establishes and maintains professional working relationships with citizens, .
  • Protects classified, confidential and sensitive information.
  • Supports the relationship between the City and the public through courteous and cooperative interactions.
  • Performs all job duties, tasks and activities according to work instructions, defined procedures and policies.
  • Identifies, records and reports problems that interfere with completion of job duties, and initiates, recommends or provides solutions as appropriate.
  • Keeps work areas clean and orderly.
  • Exemplifies a cooperative attitude to work effectively with others.
  • Performs related duties as assigned or required by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current, valid Texas Drivers License with good driving record.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of grounds or park maintenance experience.
  • Regular and timely attendance is required for this position.
  • Must report to work for duty outside normally scheduled work hours in response to special events, natural disasters, emergencies or critical incidents as determined by City Administration.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Experience related to parks and grounds.
  • Licensed Irrigation Technician (IT)

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of one (1) year of grounds or park maintenance experience.
