Salary:$17.94 - $25.54 per hour  Work Period:8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday

Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent.  One year of experience is necessary to gain full knowledge of general office practices, procedures, and equipment or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Knowledge: Office administrative and secretarial practices and procedures, such as business letter writing and the operation of standard office equipment, including a word processor and personal and networked computers.  Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Access, and  Power Point  preferred. Recordkeeping, report preparation, filing methods and records management techniques. Correct English usage and excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Standard business arithmetic, including percentages and decimals. Basic accounting and purchasing methods and procedures.  Basic project management procedures and techniques.  Skills:  Excellent spelling skills.  Proofing skills.  Analytical skills.  Interpersonal skills. Organizing and prioritizing tasks and maintaining filing and recordkeeping systems.  Mathematical skills for accounting and recordkeeping purposes.  Mental and Physical Abilities:  Receive and follow oral and written instructions; use resourcefulness and tact with public contacts under limited supervision; pay close attention to detail; work under stressful conditions and meet deadlines in a timely manner; undertake responsibility of increasing variety with initiative and good judgment; and adhere to prescribed departmental routine. Ability to learn in a reasonable amount of time the functions of City government in order to effectively provide assistance to citizens and employees.  Considerable public contact is involved and employees of this class are expected to use skill and judgment in the conduct of these contacts within established policies and procedures. Close supervision is given at the beginning of the work and on major new assignments, but as experience is gained with particular policies and procedures, they are expected to work with some independence. Ability to maintain confidential nature of the work. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lb.) 5-10% of work time. Ability to maintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance.  Additional Information: Final candidates will undergo spelling and typing skills assessment. Selected applicant must pass background investigation and drug screen.  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Serves as receptionist/secretary and initial contact person in administrative building.  Must have professional presence. Types letters, memoranda, reports, and other types of documents and correspondence from copy, rough draft, or transcribes from dictating equipment.  Responsible for learning licensing procedures and explaining the procedures to interested license holders.  Serves as staff support for various projects, and/or events; answers inquiries from the public, schedules meetings, and processes mail.  Compiles information from various sources in order to prepare both routine and complex reports.  Maintains and monitors manual and/or computerized recordkeeping systems; prepares statistical and summary reports.  Maintains manual filing systems. Answers the telephone for reception desk as well as the Action Center, screens and routes calls, provides public with general information regarding department services, and responds to general public requests. Maintains the City Clerk’s portion of the web page as well as the community event and meetings calendar.  Photocopies, and facsimiles a variety of documents, correspondence, forms, etc.  Performs related duties as required. WORKING CONDITIONS:  Work is performed in a normal office environment.
