The City of Corona is searching for an experienced, innovative and collaborative economic development professional with exceptional judgment, can-do mindset, and the ability to forge strong relationships to serve as its next Economic Development Director.
 

The Economic Development Director will provide strong leadership and expert advice on all matters dealing with economic development in the City to support ongoing efforts to promote the local and regional economy and support the high quality of life enjoyed by residents. The ideal candidate will be a well-rounded professional with an extensive background and subject matter expertise in all aspects of economic development, including downtown redevelopment.
 
The successful candidate will be capable of articulating a clear, compelling vision for economic development within the City as well as focus the efforts and resources of the City toward projects and initiatives that will ensure the continued economic vitality of the City. The new Economic Development Director will be an adept problem solver, skillful negotiator, and results-oriented professional, and someone who sincerely values teamwork, partnerships and authentic community engagement.
 
The Economic Development Director will develop, plan, execute and evaluate the goals, strategies, and policies for economic development to ensure a favorable climate for business and sustainable economic growth.



Some of the position's requirements include:
 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Business or Public Administration, Redevelopment, Urban Planning, Economic Development;
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in oversight or managing projects and programs in urban economic development economics, business assistance, public facility or infrastructure development, commercial development, public and/or private finance, or workforce development, fiscal planning, budget preparation and economic development tools and incentives;
  • 7+ years of managerial/strategic leadership experience with a medium to large Economic Development department;
  • Or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

 
LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:
 

  • International Economic Development Council (IEDC) Certified Economic Developer.

THE ORGANIZATION
 
The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government.  Policy making and legislative authority is vested in the City Council, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members.  Members of the City Council are elected by District to a four-year term.  The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year. The City is organized into various departments such as Administrative Services, Community Development, Department of Water and Power, Fire, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Library and Recreations Services, Maintenance Services, Management Services, Police, and Public Works. The City's total operating budget for Fiscal Year 2019/20 is $335.8 million with a General Fund operating budget of $139.5 million. Corona enjoys a workforce of over 800 dedicated employees who provide high quality services to its residents and visitors each day.
